What his colour means

Pope is a blue and tan dapple, and he is the warmer of our two blue dapple littermates — there is a cream and tan base showing under the blue-grey dapple patching, where Pit reads cooler and more uniformly slate. Side by side the difference is obvious; in isolation it is easy to miss, which is why we mention it.

The same two notes that apply to Pit apply to him:

• Blue is a dilute colour, and the dilution gene is associated with colour dilution alopecia — coat thinning and sometimes skin irritation, typically between six months and three years. Many blue dogs never develop it, and it is a coat issue rather than a threat to the dog, but it is specific to the dilutes and you should weigh it knowingly. More on blue Dachshunds.
• One dapple gene, not two. Only one parent is a dapple, so he is not a double dapple and carries none of the associated deafness or eye-defect risk. How we pair for dapple.

For a dog with no coat-linked condition at all, compare him with the black and chocolate puppies.

What is included at $1,000

Age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, a vet health check, a one-year health guarantee, and a written record of both parents’ coat patterns. He is started on potty training and raised in the house rather than a kennel.

Seeing him before you pay

We do a live video call before any payment, so you can watch him move, see how he reacts to a noise, and ask whatever you want. We do not ask for payment before that call.
