What his colour means
Pit is a blue dapple. Blue is a dilution of black — it reads as slate-grey rather than charcoal, with a grey nose instead of a black one — and the dapple gene breaks that grey with lighter marbling.
Two honest notes, because you should have both before you decide rather than after:
- Blue is a dilute colour, and the dilution gene is associated with colour dilution alopecia: gradual coat thinning, sometimes with irritated skin, most often appearing between six months and three years. It is a coat and skin condition rather than a dangerous one, and plenty of blue Dachshunds never develop it — but the risk is real and it is specific to this colour. More on blue Dachshunds.
- He carries one dapple gene, not two. Only one parent is a dapple, so he is not a double dapple, and none of the deafness or eye-defect risk attached to that pairing applies to him. How we pair for dapple.
If you would rather avoid the dilute question entirely, our black and chocolate puppies carry no coat-linked condition at all.
What is included at $1,000
Age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, a vet health check, a one-year health guarantee, and a written record of both parents’ coat patterns. He is started on potty training and raised in the house rather than a kennel.
Seeing him before you pay
We do a live video call before any payment, so you can watch him move, see how he reacts to a noise, and ask whatever you want. We do not ask for payment before that call.
